Classes have been developed by a Registered Nurse who is a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Association, is a Certified Health Education Specialist,  is a Childbirth Educator certified by The Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA), and has Master’s level education in public health and health education.  All classes are taught by experienced Registered Nurses.

Pregnancy Basics

Wait, I’m pregnant? There are so many changes to think about, where do I start?  The answer is, you start here! In this class we discuss the many exciting changes of pregnancy, choosing a provider, what to expect in prenatal care, the importance of support systems, what you can do to contribute to having the best pregnancy experience possible, and more!

Exercise and Nutrition in Pregnancy

In this class, you will learn exercises you can do in pregnancy to prepare you for labor and delivery, increase your comfort level during pregnancy as well as principles of nutrition-specific to pregnancy.  Good nutrition and exercise can contribute to better circulation, improved digestion, it can stabilize hormone levels which improve mood,  it can relieve stress, and much more.  You’re only pregnant for 9 months, so the earlier in pregnancy you take this class, the better!

Childbirth Education: 4-week online group class

One of the most common fears in pregnancy is labor and birth. In this class, you will be inspired and you will leave looking forward to that magic moment when labor starts and your birth story begins.  Learn all about the process of labor and delivery as we explore common myths and everyday miracles of birth.  Come with an open mind and your labor support person and be prepared to look at birth from a new perspective as we have class discussions, demonstrations, lectures, and interactive exercises.  You can do this!

Birth Planning Consultation (Exclusively for new to 2 members)

Most women remember their experience of giving birth forever.  More than likely, you will too.  The decisions you make regarding your labor and delivery will affect your birth experience.  Make decisions you are happy with and comfortable with by learning about which decisions you may be faced with, what your options are, the process of labor and birth, what informed consent is, what your rights are as a patient, and more.  A Birth Plan doesn’t guarantee that you will have the birth you plan, it empowers you to take an active role in the birth process and communicate with your healthcare provider.  You will leave with everything you need to create your own birth plan. It is best scheduled in the third trimester after having taken the Childbirth Education course.  Support persons welcome.

Breastfeeding 101

Miraculous Milk! Learn things you never knew about breastfeeding while we explore what you need to know to succeed in breastfeeding your baby.  Your body has the amazing ability to not only grow another human being inside of it but to nourish and nurture that baby as well.  You will leave this class knowing more about breastfeeding and feeling good about your ability to breastfeed.

Newborn Care Part 1: Understanding your newborn

This class focuses on understanding the behavior of your newborn in order to appropriately respond to his or her cues.  This knowledge will give you skills in caring for your baby you may not have otherwise. The class is based on world-renowned Nurse Practitioner Jan Tedder’s Hug Your Baby award-winning, evidence-based curriculum. 

Newborn Care part 2: Practical skills

How to change a diaper? How to give a bath? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!  Learn biological information and basic principles about newborns that will help you care for your baby.  Demonstration and hands-on practice with our newborn medical mannikin dolls will help you practice the skills most common in newborn care.

“My birth experience” Session

Check-in with a registered nurse who is eager to hear all about your birth experience and help you process this life-changing event. Discuss how you are feeling, how you are adjusting to life as a new mother, relationships, household management, and of course your baby! Use this opportunity to ask questions about breastfeeding, discuss new parent concerns, take a postpartum depression self-screening.  Feel free to bring your baby with you for lactation consulting/breastfeeding support. 

Infant CPR

American Heart Association’s Infant CPR class is taught by a Registered Nurse who is a certified American Heart Association Instructor.  This class includes all the AHA content and information on Infant CPR and choking as well as skills practice on infant manikins.  This class does not have a written exam and because it is free, it does not offer the AHA completion card. 

Pregnant Women Who Are Survivors of Sexual Abuse

With approximately 25% of women experiencing sexual abuse, many women find that pregnancy, anticipating birth, or thinking about breastfeeding can be a trigger for past sexual abuse.  You are not alone. In this private session, we discuss issues survivors of abuse may have during pregnancy and how to have a positive pregnancy and birth experience by exploring techniques that have been shown to help in a safe and confidential atmosphere.
